Sheikh said
was a greet poet in Iran. He used to lead simple a vary life. Once on his way
to the court of the king of Iran, he took shelter in nobleman’s house for
aright He was then in a very simple dress. The nobleman and other people of
that house took Saadi to be an ordinary man. So they did not deal well with
him. The dish they served him as dinner was also very simple. However, the
great poet received all their treatments easily and left the house in the next
morning for the court. On his back way from the court, Sheikh Saadi spent a
night in the same nobleman’s house. This time he was wearing rich dresses. The
nobleman and his family thought that he would be an aristocrat. So, they respected
him duly and gave him rich foods to eat. But sheikh Saadi began to put the
foods in his pocket. At this, the nobleman was astonished. He asked the poet, “What’s
the matter, Sir? Is there anything wrong?” “This food is for my dress. Had it
been not so, I would have been treated in the same manner when I was in very
simply dressed,” replied the poet. The nobleman could realize what mistake he
had made. He was ashamed of his behavior. He begged for pardon.
